Minty Moss Baby Afghan

Hi all! Kristina here. We share a blanket pattern once a month in support of New Borns in Need as the blanket we make goes to them. This month I did a little mint green number as I had one of those jumbo skeins of baby yarn and the coordinating hook off the label. So grab your baby yarn and your hook and lets get to it.

This blanket was made with Lionbrand LB of Love yarn and an F hook but you can use your choice of yarn and corresponding hook. I love to get my stitches from New Stitch a Day and this time was no exception, I did the Even Moss stitch.

Ch as wide as you’d like your blanket to be just make sure its in multiples of 2 (so keep it even for the Even Moss stitch, haha).

  • Row 1: Skip first ch, sl st into next ch, *hdc into next ch, sl st into next ch; rep from * to end, turn.
  • Row 2: 1ch, skip first st, *sl st into next st, hdc into next st, rep from * ending with sl st into tch, turn.

Repeat row 2 until you have reached your desired length.

For Newborns in Need the preference is 2 ft x 3 ft or 3 ft x 3ft. This pattern is so easy to customize to the size you desire!

You can’t get any simpler than that!

To trim it out any way you’d like but I did the Crab Stitch. To me the Crab stitch is down right funny, you are basically crocheting in reverse (AKA reverse SC), hilarious. When I first heard about it I wondered what on earth would you ever use that for, but it makes a great trim.

So you basically do a SC but in the stitch BEHIND you, not going in the normal direction. It gives it a nice finished look around it without adding a bunch of time, bulk, and yarn.

Hope you love it! If you make one we’d love to see it.
