Memory Photo Album

Hello lovely people! Glad you stopped in and we hope you will stay awhile 🙂

You may have seen our posts on the memory quilt we made for K’s friend (Part 1 & Finished). We thought we would try to make a Memory Photo Album with some of the scraps

Memory Photo Album

First I took some of the shirt scraps and cut them into 2ish inch wide strips. I did sew a few of the strips together to make them longer.

I checked if a piece of felt would be large enough to cover our photo album and yes!

I then marked and cut out the picture window – in retrospect, I should have left this until after the strips were added. I think it would have given a better look to the finished window.

I started in the middle and laid out a strip of the shirt, sewing down both sides. I realized later I should have started in a corner (I wanted a diagonal) and worked to the other corner.

I then laid the next strip right sides together with the previous strip and sewed down one side then flipped the strip over. You don’t have to be straight on, I did some at an angle.

I continued laying, sewing, flipping until I reached the end, then flipped the piece around and sewed to the other corner.

Next I sewed around the outside edge and then cut off the excess cloth.

I cut the window in an X shape, folded the flaps back and sewed close around the edges. This did not actually give me the look I wanted so I am thinking it would have looked better if I had left the felt and cut all at once.

I then used hot glue to secure the felted quilt to the book. I had a hard time with the corners so I made sure they were neat.

The finished album does look nice but could have been nicer. I think next time I will sew two felts together and then sew the edges to make a slide on book cover.

If you have any tips or tricks that would have improved this photo album please share as we would like to make a few more!

Hope you have a fun day, Millie
