Learn to do a braided Chinese bun

July 29, 2016By 0 Comments

Surprise, I dyed my hair green! okay only half of it but still, pretty cool, eh? I wanted to do something fun with my hair that would show it off other than just leave it down so I was looking around for neat hair styles. I found one called the Chinese braided bun. It is normally made with a chopstick or hair stick but I decided to use a double ended bamboo knitting needle because, well because that is so me.

supplies needed

Supplies: Knitting needle, stick, hair stick, chopstick, whatever kind of stick you want to use. Some bobby pins, this was all I owned you may want more. 2 Pony tail holders, preferably thin and small, the less you see them the better. These were rather large but it is all I had. I don’t often do my hair.

Start with 2 braids

Step 1: Separate the hair into two sections and braid each straight down your back. See here braid one is done and braid two has begun. Near the end my hair was so long I had to flip it around front to finish, but start in the back so it will lay flat against your head.

Step 2: Stick the stick (no pun intended) through the top of both braids

Step 3: Cross the braids over so the braid on your left is on top of the braid on your right.

Step 4: Bring them up so that they are inside the stick (up against your head) and cross them, switching hands.

Step 5: Bring the braids down between the stick and your head and change hands again. At this point I ran out of hair, if you have more hair just repeat 4 and 5 until you run out of hair.

Step 6: Bobby pin in place. Be generous with the pins. Pin the ends in and pin in place wherever it feels loose.
