Hi all, Kristina here. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention homemade cards in the gift guide. A homemade card can go with a gift or even by itself. Your creativity is your limit with these. If you have a machine like a cricut the job is even easier.
I like to add embellishments to the card as well and washi tape is one quick and easy way to do that. One of the washi tapes I like to use is here.
You can make a plain card pop by adding trim with the tape, adding tape under cut out letters for a fun addition of color, or maybe behind cut out shapes or designs. Here is the card I made with the Cricut and washi tape. It didn’t take long. I started with a card canvas, made 2 rectangles in the background color (one for inside to write on as my card was dark), I added a little snowflake at the top and wrote Let it Snow! and tilted it to the side. I glued the background rectangle to the card then I added the red washi tape to the bottom and the corner of the top layer so the edges would be sandwiched between the top layer and the background layer. Then I measured out where I wanted the green tape by laying the top layer down and stretching the tape over where the letters would go. I cheated by having my son move the top layer for me and I stuck it on making sure the edges of the tape didn’t sneak out from under the top layer. I put the top layer back on and glued it in place. voila.
To add just a little more pop I glued the snowflake that I had cut out on the inside but just in the middle so the little arms stick up a bit. I’m the only one who seemed to love this touch but I really like it. What do you think of it? I thought about adding washi tape on the inside but decided to leave that space simple and ready for words.
What do you think? Is a handmade card a great gift, or only a partner to a gift? Do you make your own cards?
Thanks for hanging out!
