Learn to do a braided Chinese bun

July 29, 2016By 0 Comments

Surprise, I dyed my hair green! okay only half of it but still, pretty cool, eh? I wanted to do something fun with my hair that would show it off other than just leave it down so I was looking around for neat hair styles. I found one called the Chinese braided bun. It is normally made with a chopstick or hair stick but I decided to use a double ended bamboo knitting needle because, well because that is so me.

Balancing Beans

2crochethooks gift guide

Hi all! Kristina here, I believe this will be my last Gift guide post. I hope you enjoyed it and got some good ideas.

Today’s gift idea is a fun educational game for kids called Balance Beans. This great game is fairly simple and straightforward as far as directions go (my favorite kind). I hate it when games get unnecessarily complicated. That being said some of the combinations are still slightly complicated for kids to figure out.

Basically you get a card and on the card it tells you how to set up the game pieces that then won’t move (the red beans). The card also tells you which move-able pieces you are allowed to use to make the see-saw balance.

The cards range in difficulty from easy to super hard and all steps in between so the kiddos can start out easy and work their way up if it gets too easy for them but it also won’t be so hard that it is frustrating.

I feel this game is a great balance between fun and education. My son didn’t even realize he was learning balancing principles but he told me that if he gets the same number on each side of the middle it works. Its slightly more complicated than that but I was pleased with his insight just the same.

I also love that its a solo game, he can get it out whenever he wants and play all on his own. Great alternative to tv and video games.

All in all I think this is a great gift, what do you think? What was your favorite gift from the gift guide? Thanks for hanging out with me.

You know one of the great things about checking out blog posts you see linked up at parties is the inspiration you can receive. Every post I share I hope inspires someone and I love sharing the posts that inspired me to be crafty! Like this ONE from Gail at Purple Hues and Me. She shows off this lovely vase she decorated with sea shells and I just knew I needed to do something for Kristina’s coastal home like it!! This is a not-so-secret gift I made for Kristina. It has shells so it’s beachy and it has jars so it’s useful! This will be a cool craft you can have the kids do for teacher or grandparent or even friend gifts!

Positive Reinforcement Mirror

July 22, 2016By 0 Comments

Hey All! Millie here with a  new gift from the Handmade Christmas Blog Hop! A bunch of us crafty bloggers got together to brainstorm 1 gift a month we could make for the people on our Christmas list. By making a few gifts all year long that MIGHT relieve the usual last minute crafting crunch! See the link up below for all the great gifts made so far! handmade Christmas blog hop 2crochethooks

Mary, blogger at The Boondocks Blog, made a lovely gift using the words from a song and a simple picture frame. You can see her creation HERE. I loved the idea but had already made one gift with music and wasn’t sure what type of music anyone else likes. So then I thought of doing a poem but ended up getting distracted (ha!) and pushed the idea to the side. Then my oldest sister called with some life changing news (for her) and Mary’s gift popped back in my head! Part of the convo with her ended with her taking a week off work to go “find her happy self”, I said “oh that little pony tail girl with the freckles that giggles all the time?” and she said yes.

Gift guide: Homemade card(s)

2crochethooks gift guide

Hi all, Kristina here. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention homemade cards in the gift guide. A homemade card can go with a gift or even by itself. Your creativity is your limit with these. If you have a machine like a cricut the job is even easier.

I like to add embellishments to the card as well and washi tape is one quick and easy way to do that. One of the washi tapes I like to use is here.
